PewDiePie has released the first version of Ajax, an "uncensored" AI model built for home PCs. The model is a fine-tuned version of Alibaba's Qwen3.5-9B and runs a workspace designed to handle daily tasks such as search, web browsing, email and calendar management, according to its Ajax page. The page states that the work is done completely privately and that the model's refusal behavior has been removed for a freer, less restricted AI experience, while asking users to act responsibly. The announcement follows his workspace launch in May.
The setup resembles OpenClaw and Nous Research's Hermes Agent. To remove the refusal behavior, PewDiePie relied on automatic abliteration through the open-source tool Heretic, which identifies prompts the model refuses and strips out the refusal while trying to avoid what he described as brain damage from removing too much. He said he drew the line at harm to other people or oneself, and on his lawyer's advice said the model is not designed to provide dangerous actionable instructions. He cited nuclear weapons as an example, though the source notes the real limits are unclear.
The creator said he wanted to distill just a little bit in order to improve his model. He pointed to frontier AI companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic, which he said hide their reasoning through methods including encryption and attempted distillation, and he suggested some distillation may be no different from how the models are trained. He noted that OpenAI recently attributed such a campaign to actors linked to Moonshot AI and treats it as a threat. PewDiePie said he was banned twice during the process, with no specific examples given, and after running the model again to create his seed data he asked how they even knew, adding that the companies worked hard stealing data to make their AI machines.
PewDiePie said he strongly believes in small models trained for a specific harness and offered them as an alternative to the one trillion parameter models, referring to rumored frontier sizes. He said it makes no sense to poke that giant beast just for basic tasks, and that his interest remains in research and providing a usable model, which also means smaller. He asked fans to donate training data as a better alternative to collecting it directly from Odysseus users, though he said no one submitted any.
He said he planned two more days of reinforcement learning before rerunning the decensoring step, quantizing and benchmarking. He added that he cannot wait to release the next version of Ajax and Odysseus, noting that Odysseus has received a huge update as well. The naming makes sense because Ajax was Odysseus' rival in the classic myth, though he joked that it is named after the cleaning product. For US users, the project points to running uncensored, less restricted intelligence on their own hardware, which the source frames as an important goal in keeping the technology free.
