Microsoft will hold a Windows and Surface event in San Francisco on October 7th, the company has announced. The company says the gathering will be a conversation on how local AI will shape the next chapter of the PC. It marks the first major Windows event in more than two years.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is scheduled to attend, along with Pavan Davuluri, the company's Windows and Surface chief. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will also appear at the event. His presence suggests that RTX Spark PCs could be the main focus, and details about pricing and availability for the Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra may follow.
Microsoft is also expected to discuss quality improvements to Windows and what is coming next for the platform. A surprise announcement of Windows 12 is not anticipated. The company's last major Windows event took place in May 2024, when it introduced new Arm-based Copilot Plus PCs and a renewed partnership with Qualcomm.
Before that, Microsoft announced Windows 11 during a livestream in June 2021. The October 7th event is set to begin at 10AM PT / 1PM ET. The Verge will cover the event live from San Francisco.
The event gives Microsoft a stage to address the direction of its flagship operating system and its Surface hardware line, which have not been the subject of a major company event since 2024. The appearance of Nvidia's chief executive points to close alignment between the two companies on local AI processing for PCs.
