Reddit will now present users with two feed options when they open the platform: For You and Following, the company announced Wednesday. The For You feed mixes posts from communities a user has joined with recommendations matched to that user's interests, while Following shows only posts from communities the user has joined. Reddit said the feature is intended to help users find relevant communities and conversations they might otherwise have missed, and that the change is meant to encourage connection, participation, and belonging.
The launch places Reddit alongside Instagram, X, Threads, and Facebook, which have all adopted For You-style feeds. Reddit is likely seeking to push users toward content outside the communities they already follow, and the redesign moves the platform closer to the recommendation-driven experience that has become standard across social media, where algorithms play a large role in deciding what users see.
Not all users are expected to welcome the shift. Some may prefer a feed limited to posts from communities they have joined rather than recommended content mixed into their home view, and some who saw the new feed during its initial testing phase have already voiced frustration with the change. Reddit said users can switch between the two feeds and will return to the one they last viewed the next time they open the platform.
In a blog post, the company described the new feed experience as a first step toward driving discovery that leads to something novel and relevant, such as an idea, a connection, a unique perspective, or a new interest. Reddit also said a more human internet is not something users sit back and watch but something they find value in and want to participate in.
The new feed experience is rolling out globally over the next few weeks, according to the company.
