Meta has brought Instagram to Apple TV, giving US users another way to watch Reels, live streams and other video content on a television screen. The arrival of the app on Apple TV was noted quietly rather than announced with a formal rollout. It extends Instagram's reach beyond the phones and tablets where the service built its audience.

The Apple TV version appeared in the App Store when the Instagram listing added Apple TV to its roster of compatible platforms on October 23rd, as spotted by MacRumors. Archived copies of the app page from as recently as October 18th showed only the iPad and iOS among supported devices. Meta did not make a prominent announcement of the change.

Instagram for TV is built around video viewing on a larger display, with Reels, live streams and other video content at its center. Meta first began testing a version of the platform oriented toward that kind of content in December of last year. It then introduced a batch of new features for the app in June.

The television app had already been available on Amazon's Fire TV, Samsung Smart TVs and Google TV before reaching Apple TV. The Apple TV support marks the latest platform for a product that Meta has been steadily spreading across living-room devices. The app remains available on the iPad and iOS as well.

The television push comes as Instagram seeks to expand into longer-form, episodic content. Meta is also aiming to capitalize on the growing popularity of microdramas. A presence on TV screens positions the app for viewers who watch that kind of content in the living room rather than on a phone.

For US consumers, the change means Apple TV owners can now access Instagram's video offerings through the App Store listing without additional hardware. The update was made without fanfare, and the app's compatibility list is the main public record of the shift.
