Apple on Monday released version 27.2 of its operating systems, a rollout that reaches iOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS. The iOS update centers on Siri AI, the company's artificial intelligence features for its voice assistant. Apple had previously announced several of the additions included in the release.
In iOS 27.2, Siri gains a memory capability that lets it recall earlier conversations and refer back to them during later exchanges. Apple is also widening the set of personal data sources Siri can consult when answering, adding voicemails and attachments in Messages. Users get a new Excluded Apps setting for choosing which apps Siri, Search and suggestions are permitted to access.
Siri AI now supports five additional languages beyond English: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. The source article states that Siri AI remains unavailable in Europe and mainland China. The iPhone 16 lineup and later, along with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, receive the Siri enhancements.
Other iOS 27.2 changes include context-aware Suggestions in Messages, which can turn a message inviting the user to an event into a calendar entry, and can prompt quick actions in apps such as Calendar and Reminders. Photos adds SynthID watermarking support, the Apple TV app adds user profiles, and Apple Music has new branding. The update also brings Apple Pencil support to the iPhone Duo foldable, a feature Apple had previously promised.
The macOS Golden Gate 27.2 update carries contextual memory for Siri and the same additional Siri AI languages, along with unspecified bug fixes. The Apple Watch update is similarly focused on Siri, and visionOS 27.2 adds the new languages and the updated Music icon.
The macOS 27.2 beta releases contained references to gesture recognition in apps including Photos, Notes and Safari, according to the source article. Those references may relate to unconfirmed reports of touch support on the next MacBook Pro refresh, which may be shown at a scheduled public briefing on Wednesday.
