Xreal has launched its Android XR-powered Aura smartglasses, the device it first showed off earlier this year at Google I/O. The glasses are now up for pre-order for customers who have already put down a reservation deposit, with pricing that starts at $1,279. The Aura is a tethered design that connects to a separate compute puck rather than running on its own.

That puck handles the processing and runs Android XR, and it includes access to Google Play for apps along with Gemini for AI features. It also packs a built-in trackpad and fingerprint sensor for navigation, and Xreal says it can be carried on a lanyard or clipped to clothing or belongings. The glasses can additionally be plugged into a computer for use as an external monitor.

Inside, the Aura runs on the Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, which Qualcomm designed to bring augmented and mixed reality capabilities to smaller and lighter headsets. The glasses weigh under 95 grams and offer a 70-degree field of view. Their lenses are see-through, so wearers can view their surroundings alongside whatever is projected on the virtual screen, and the cameras enable precise hand tracking. Audio is handled through Bose-engineered technology. During testing at Google's developer conference, the visuals appeared extremely sharp and bright even in sunny outdoor conditions.

The Aura will come in two sizes, medium for 60-66mm and large for 66-72mm. It ships with the compute puck and will be sold in two configurations: one with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and another with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The larger configuration is priced at $1,499.

For US buyers, the Aura represents Xreal's first Android XR entry into the market, and the glasses will begin shipping soon in the United States, Canada, Japan and South Korea. Orders open to the general public in the coming weeks. Xreal has said it plans to bring the model to additional markets in 2027.
