Warp, the AI coding company, introduced Warp Factories on Tuesday, a system designed to help companies build and operate AI software factories without developing the underlying infrastructure themselves. The product is aimed at smaller organizations that lack the resources to create such a system in-house, according to Warp CEO Zach Lloyd. Warp Factories operates as an infrastructure layer, giving companies a ready-made environment for deploying AI agents and a framework for managing them.
The software factory model is an approach that structures an agent loop around the traditional stages of software development, and it has become a common way for companies to reorganize their engineering teams for the AI era. Warp’s system comes with the architecture pre-built, meaning many of the hardest decisions are already made. The system follows standard development phases - triage, specification, implementation, review, and verification - but allows any of those steps to be automated.
Warp’s new offering is not meant to replace human engineers, but rather to make it easier for them to work alongside an agentic workforce. Lloyd said his own company automates about 30 to 35 percent of its tasks on a weekly basis, and he expects that figure to rise as models, context, and harnesses improve. Even with that automation, he said there are still many tasks that need a person in charge.
The system is designed to plug into existing workflows, integrating with ticketing platforms like Linear and Jira, and messaging systems like Slack and Teams. Users can also pick their own coding model and harnesses, with the system supporting both Codex and Claude Code. Beyond shipping code, Warp Factories gives managers tools to track performance, including comparing metrics across different configurations and monitoring overall token spend. The system also includes self-improvement loops to automate the management of the process itself.
Warp is entering a field where some companies have already found success with the factory model on their own. Stripe has been public about its technical progress, developing a system it calls “minions” to automate development in its own codebase. Ramp has also made progress, building a background agent that can monitor its code after deployment. Lloyd said the target market for Warp Factories is companies without the resources to build such systems from the ground up, citing the heavy infrastructure work involved in running agents in the cloud, steering them as they run, and setting up shared memory and evals.
