The White House has described Truth Social as the most powerful and popular social media platform in the world, a characterization that conflicts with independent measurements of platform usage. YouTube and Facebook remain the world’s most popular platforms by a wide margin, each with billions of active users. Truth Social does not appear among the top ten platforms in data compiled by Search Engine Land.
That data shows YouTube leading globally with 2.65 billion monthly active users. Facebook ranks second with 2.39 billion active users, followed by TikTok at 2.21 billion and Instagram at 1.99 billion. Elon Musk’s X and Meta’s Threads sit at the bottom of the top ten with 450 million and 223 million users, respectively, both trailing Pinterest at 579 million.
Traffic to Truth Social appears to be falling. Data from Similarweb cited by the New York Times indicates monthly visitors to the platform dropped 36 percent in July compared with the same month a year earlier. An average of 28 million people visited Truth Social each month from January to July 2025, and that figure fell to 25 million during the first seven months of 2026.
Last month, Truth Social introduced a $100,000 per month subscription offering early access to posts from Trump and other prominent users. The offering has raised concerns about corruption. The New York Times report also described Trump’s posting patterns on the platform, which frequently include AI-generated images, such as one depicting his head on Hulk Hogan’s body and another showing him striking a cut-out of Iran with a hammer while brandishing the American flag.
The White House’s claim about the platform’s popularity was attributed to President Trump’s authentic voice. According to that account, Truth Social is where he communicates directly with the American people and the world without the biased media taking him out of context. The assertion of global dominance places the platform ahead of services with active user bases measured in the billions, even as its own visitor numbers decline.
