Sincere Inc. has introduced a new color variant for its Pixel Tunes portable CD player. The model is called After Hours, and its translucent shell glows in the dark. According to the company's official product page, the finish emits a soft green light once the lights go out.
The Pixel Tunes is a Bluetooth-equipped portable CD player. It includes a USB Type-C rechargeable lithium-ion battery and Bluetooth 5.3. Sincere Inc. says the design reflects the habits of listeners who move from bright daytime routines into what it describes as the private world of the night.
The After Hours finish joins three existing translucent color options. Those standard versions are Warm Gray, Ray of Light, and 1983. In daylight, the After Hours body reads as a translucent smoke-shelled player. Adding phosphorescence to the shell is what distinguishes it from the rest of the lineup.
The product page does not answer every question a disc collector might have. The listing gives no indication of whether the Pixel Tunes can play home-burned CD-R or CD-RW discs. It also makes no mention of MP3 file support or USB audio playback.
The After Hours model carries a listed price of 12,980 yen, which comes to roughly $83. Buyers outside Japan can purchase it through a forwarding service of their choosing, or check Amazon Japan, which the listing indicates will ship the special edition internationally depending on location.
The Pixel Tunes is not the only translucent portable CD player on the market. A separate release is an orange player themed around Death Stranding 2. That product resulted from a collaboration between video game designer Hideo Kojima and the audio company km5.
