Matic has launched the Serene, its first new robot vacuum since the company's 2023 debut, and the machine's main change is a reduction in noise. The Serene is priced at $1,695 and is available now, according to the company.

Matic says the Serene runs at 52 decibels at its highest suction level, a level the company compares to a running refrigerator. The original Matic, which remains on sale at $1,495, operates at 55 decibels. The Serene costs $200 more than the current price of the original model.

The new model is aimed at buyers who are extremely sensitive to noise, cofounder and president Mehul Nariyawala said. He said that apart from the noise reduction, the Serene is otherwise the same machine as the original Matic. The quieter operation comes from a new hardware stack.

Nariyawala said the Serene is very quiet on carpets and hard surfaces, with users mostly hearing the brush roll. Matic designed its vacuum around what Nariyawala has described as the seven deadly sins of robot vacuums, with noise high on that list alongside getting stuck and dying under the couch.

Noise has been a persistent issue for robot vacuum owners in the US and elsewhere, since loud machines are often switched off before they finish cleaning. Many robot vacuums offer a quiet mode in the range of 55 to 60 decibels, but they reach that level by reducing suction power, and most run closer to 70 decibels in high-power mode. The Serene is designed to clean at maximum power while staying at 52 decibels.

Existing Matic owners are being offered an upgrade path. They can request a Serene hardware upgrade for their current model in early 2027, and the cost is the difference between what they originally paid and the Serene's $1,695 price. Because Matic has raised prices since launch, that difference varies: a buyer who paid $1,095 at launch would face a $600 upgrade charge.

Matic's vacuums use a form factor and navigation system that differ from the lidar-based disc robots sold by iRobot, Roborock, Dreame and others. A full review of the Serene is expected soon.
