Meta AI is getting a Mac app

Meta is launching a dedicated Mac app for its AI chatbot, the company announced on Wednesday. The app allows users to share their screen window with the AI, which can then offer suggestions, answer questions, or generate content based on what is displayed. Meta also said the Mac version supports dictation across all applications on the device.

The move positions Meta AI as a productivity-focused assistant, a shift aimed at competing with rivals that already offer desktop apps. Google’s Gemini app permits window sharing, while OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude go further by letting the chatbots take control of the computer. The Mac app launch brings Meta into that desktop landscape as US users increasingly rely on such tools for work tasks.

Alongside the app, Meta introduced new AI capabilities for businesses and creators. The company said its AI across the web, mobile, and Mac can now work directly with Instagram and Facebook accounts, Meta ad campaigns, and Google Workspace. This integration is designed to let the chatbot pull data from those platforms to assist with content and performance tasks.

For example, Meta said the AI can analyze post reach, likes, shares, and saves to make recommendations on what to publish next. It can also gather information from a business’s account and the web to build decks, documents, and spreadsheets. Recurring tasks, such as generating weekly performance updates, are another listed capability.

The announcement comes as the broader AI assistant market heats up, with desktop apps becoming a key point of differentiation among major tech firms. Meta’s entry into that space underscores its effort to keep pace in a segment where user habits are shifting toward integrated, screen-aware tools. The company did not specify a release date or pricing for the Mac app in its announcement.

For US users, the app ties directly into social media management and office productivity workflows, given the prevalence of Instagram, Facebook, and Google Workspace in small businesses and creator economies.
