HyperX has released its first open-back gaming headset, the Cloud Alpha Air, priced at $150. The company, known for gaming accessories for over a decade, designed this model to address a common issue with open-back audio: bass loss. To counter that, the headset includes a Bass Tube feature and plush foam earpads to maintain low-end response.

In a hands-on test, the headset delivered a controlled deep rumble that enhanced low tones in games without overpowering mids and highs. The Cloud Alpha Air has an impedance of 34 ohms, though plugging it into a PC via a 3.5mm cable produced a slightly subdued volume. Users can boost output using the included USB adapter or their own DAC, and the free NGENUITY app allows for EQ adjustments.

The design is minimal, with a volume wheel and a mute button for the detachable mic as the only onboard controls. The ear cups feature a metallic grille over red 40mm drivers, and the ultrasuede-covered foam earcups fit comfortably for long sessions. The metal headband withstood bending stress during testing, and the kit includes a 3.5mm cord, a PC extension cable with separate audio and mic jacks, a USB adapter with both USB-A and USB-C connectors, and a drawstring bag.

The headset is currently wired-only, which limits mobility for users who like to walk around while on Discord or listening to music. A company representative declined to comment on whether a wireless version is planned. Alongside the Cloud Alpha Air, HyperX is introducing new color options for existing models, including the Cloud III S, Cloud III Wired, and Cloud Flight 2.

HyperX also announced new mice, starting with the Pulsefire Haste 3 Pro, which weighs 47 grams and uses a carbon fiber shell. It features a Performance Sensor reaching up to 42,000 DPI and offers up to 150 hours of wireless use at 1K polling. A more affordable Pro Model is available for $90 with the same sensor but a heavier plastic shell, and a wired budget version costs $40.

No new gaming laptops or desktops were announced, aside from updated AMD-based configs for the Omen 35L. The new peripherals are scheduled to go on sale in September, targeting US consumers looking for reasonably priced accessories.
