FromSoftware has pushed back the release of The Duskbloods, the multiplayer game it had planned to launch for the Nintendo Switch 2 this year, to sometime in 2027. The studio said the title is now in the final stages of development. The delay affects Switch 2 owners who had been expecting the gothic steampunk game in the current year.
In a statement posted on X, FromSoftware said an August network test drew active interest in the game's core concepts, including combat, strategic depth and player expression. The studio said it decided to move the launch so it could spend more time on final adjustments to game rules and balancing in order to further enhance those aspects.
FromSoftware first showed The Duskbloods in April 2025 during a Switch 2 showcase. The game had been positioned as a Switch 2 exclusive. The studio had long said it would ship the title this year before confirming the change in plans.
The calendar also offers a practical reason to wait. Grand Theft Auto 6 and the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time are set to absorb much of players' attention for the rest of the year, which would have complicated a launch even if The Duskbloods had been ready.
This is not the first schedule slip FromSoftware has had on the Switch 2. A port of Elden Ring had originally been slated for 2025, but the studio did not bring it to the console until this August. Reports of performance issues had made it clear that the port needed additional optimization work before release.
For US players, the decision means the Switch 2's lineup of FromSoftware titles will not include The Duskbloods during the current year. The studio did not give a more specific release window beyond 2027. It also did not say what the final adjustments would involve beyond game rules and balancing.
