OpenAI is rolling out an Intelligent UI feature for ChatGPT that lets the chatbot answer questions with interactive visuals instead of text alone. The update is reaching all users alongside GPT-6, the company said in a blog post. Responses can now combine written answers with diagrams, charts, forms and tappable buttons. OpenAI says it trained GPT-6 to decide when interactive visuals serve a question better than text and how to lay them out inside a reply.
OpenAI offered examples of how the feature works. If a user asks about the design of a seven-speed bicycle, ChatGPT could display a diagram with interactive buttons that highlight different parts of the bike. In another example, the chatbot teaches Mahjong by generating images of each tile and sorting them into categories a user can scroll through. Users can also request tools for specific tasks, such as a retirement savings calculator, a retro game or a bill splitter, and ChatGPT will build the tool directly within its response.
The Intelligent UI launch follows OpenAI's announcement of its first GPT-6 models last month. The company is now bringing the Sol and Luna versions of GPT-6 to ChatGPT, according to the blog post. Along with enabling the new interface, OpenAI says GPT-6 improves how ChatGPT performs web searches. The model can also provide quicker, partial answers to users while it continues gathering information.
OpenAI also addressed safety in its description of the model. The company said GPT-6 showed stronger resistance to attempts to bypass its safety training. That claim was included in the same blog post that introduced the Intelligent UI feature.
The update applies to ChatGPT, the chatbot OpenAI operates, and reaches users across the service rather than a limited group. OpenAI did not provide a specific timetable beyond saying the feature is rolling out now. The company also did not detail pricing or regional availability in the post.
For US users, the change means ChatGPT answers may increasingly arrive as interactive elements rather than plain paragraphs. The tools ChatGPT generates in-line, including calculators and games, run inside the conversation itself. OpenAI's examples suggest the feature is aimed at tasks where a visual or a small application communicates more clearly than prose alone.
