Apple is working with LG on a new group of smart home products, according to a Bloomberg report. The lineup includes a video doorbell, a thermostat, an indoor camera, a deadbolt lock, an outdoor security camera, and a floodlight camera, sources told Bloomberg. The devices are said to carry LG branding while connecting to Apple's expected smart home hub, which is rumored to launch at an event on October 13th.
The collaboration is described as a "second-party" development arrangement between the two companies. The report surfaced after images and details of the LG-branded gear appeared publicly, pointing to hardware that mixes LG's name with Apple's home platform. Several of the devices are expected to support Thread and Matter, the smart home protocols that let products work across different ecosystems.
One notable feature is an ultra-wideband capability in the door lock. According to Bloomberg, that technology could let the lock open automatically when a user approaches the door. The lock is one of several products in a lineup that spans entry, security, and climate control for the home.
The LG devices arrive alongside what Bloomberg describes as a "formal reboot" of Apple's HomeKit platform. For months, reports have indicated Apple intends to push further into the smart home market. The centerpiece of that effort is a Siri AI-enabled smart home hub with a six-inch display that can be mounted on a wall or set on a table.
Apple is expected to unveil that hub later this month. The same event may also include a new HomePod mini and an upgraded Apple TV device, according to Bloomberg. The timing would tie the LG hardware to a broader refresh of Apple's home offerings.
For US consumers, the reported arrangement matters because it would bring Apple's home software and Siri into more rooms through hardware built by another manufacturer. Matter and Thread support are aimed at easing compatibility problems that have slowed smart home adoption. The products would compete in a US market already crowded with doorbells, locks, cameras, and thermostats from multiple brands.
Neither Apple nor LG has confirmed the reported plans. The details rest on Bloomberg's sourcing and on product images that have circulated publicly. Apple's October 13th event is the next expected milestone for the rumored hub and any related home devices.
