Advanced Micro Devices was founded in 1969 and is headquartered in Santa Clara, California. It designs processors and graphics chips and has them manufactured by outside foundries.

Its Ryzen desktop and laptop processors and EPYC server processors are the main competition to Intel in x86, and its Instinct accelerators are the closest commercial alternative to NVIDIA's in AI data centres.

AMD also supplies the custom chips inside the PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
