Slack can now vibe-code interactive charts and reports inside chats

Slack is introducing a feature that lets users create interactive reports, polls, dashboards, presentations, microsites, and other tools without leaving a chat. The capability, called Slackforce Surfaces, works through Slackbot, the company's AI assistant. Users describe what they want built, and Slackbot uses AI to collect information from relevant conversations and connected apps such as Google Drive or Salesforce to produce it. The feature is available to all customers, including those on the free tier, as long as Slackbot is enabled in their workspace. Live data support is slated to begin in October.

After Slackbot generates a Surface, a user can share it with colleagues and pin it to channels. Other people can then view the tool, interact with it, and leave comments. Slack offered an example in which a user asks Slackbot to create an arcade-themed visualization of AI token usage. The assistant responds by generating an interactive dashboard that shows token usage across divisions including sales, design, and engineering.

Ryan Gavin, Slack's chief marketing officer, said the point is that teams no longer have to move data into a separate tool to understand it. In an email to The Verge, he said users can ask Slackbot to build the dashboard, deck, or report in the same place the conversation is already happening, and the whole team can act on it together.

The launch follows other recent changes to Slackbot. Months earlier, Slack overhauled the assistant so it could summarize information across channels, sort through messages, and find time to schedule meetings. Last month, the company also added collaborative vibe coding channels.

Slack said Surfaces can be used in other ways as well. Examples include a live dashboard for a customer support queue that other workers can view, or a weather-themed financial forecast that pulls in data from connected apps. The company noted that the feature will only pull information that users have given its AI tools permission to access.

For US workplaces that rely on Slack, the update keeps more reporting and data work inside the messaging platform rather than in standalone analytics or presentation software. Slackforce Surfaces is available now to customers with Slackbot enabled, while the ability to use it with live data arrives in October.
