Lux Optics released the first update to its Halide camera app built for Apple's iPhone Duo, making it one of the early third-party developers to tailor software to the foldable. The update, available today for Halide Mark III users, is aimed at the device's dual screens and new aspect ratios.
App support was among the open questions in Engadget's review of the iPhone Duo. Apple's own software may be prepared for the dual screens and new aspect ratios from the start, but how quickly third-party developers would adopt the hardware remained uncertain. With Halide, the answer came quickly.
The update adds features built around each of the foldable's three poses. Among the more notable options is the ability to reposition the camera controls when the app runs in the fully open or partially open positions. Halide's interface also includes other design choices for the hardware.
In the partly open pose, the arrangement lets the iPhone Duo work like a waist-level viewfinder camera. Lux Optics said more Duo-focused features are in the works, without detailing what they would include.
Halide was reportedly once an acquisition target for Apple, which makes its approach to the Duo a notable case of a developer adapting creatively to the hardware.
The release lands in the US, where Halide Mark III users are getting the update. The story was first reported by Engadget.
