FedEx has placed an order for 2,000 electric trucks from Harbinger, an EV startup, in a deal valued at $300 million. Harbinger told TechCrunch that it intends to deliver the full order by the end of next year. The company already has trucks in production, according to the report.

The purchase marks the largest bulk order Harbinger has received since it was founded in 2022. The startup was established by former employees of Anduril, the defunct EV company Canoo, and QuantumScape. Bloomberg News was the first to report the order on Wednesday morning. FedEx previously led a $160 million Series C funding round for Harbinger late last year.

Harbinger has focused on building a single main product: an electric medium-duty commercial truck chassis. That narrow strategy appears to have produced results, as the company is now in production and generating revenue despite its relatively short history. As part of an earlier order placed alongside last year's fundraise, Harbinger has already delivered 53 trucks to FedEx.

The company has recently begun pursuing additional sources of revenue. It is expanding into hybrid emergency vehicles, acquired an autonomous driving company in February, and is selling the battery packs it developed for energy storage. Harbinger is also moving into defense applications. These developments follow an Axios report in May that the company is considering an IPO.

For the U.S. commercial vehicle market, the order signals continued interest from major logistics operators in electrifying medium-duty fleets. FedEx's role as both an investor and a customer ties the shipping giant's fleet plans to Harbinger's expansion. The delivery timeline means the 2,000 vehicles are expected to reach FedEx within roughly a year of the order.

Harbinger's move beyond its core chassis business reflects a broader push by young EV manufacturers to diversify as they scale. The company's battery pack sales, emergency vehicle work, autonomous driving acquisition, and defense efforts all represent new lines beyond its original truck platform. Its IPO consideration, reported in May, adds another potential direction for the startup.

The order and delivery schedule remain the central facts of the deal. Neither Harbinger nor FedEx disclosed further terms beyond the $300 million figure and the 2,000-truck count. The companies have not announced additional details about the vehicles or the timing of individual deliveries.
