Amazon announced that its Alexa+ conversational assistant is now available in India, with support for Hindi. The assistant is accessible to all customers in the country through an Early Access period in both Hindi and English. Amazon said Alexa+ can sustain longer conversations and retain context throughout them.
After the early testing period ends, Alexa+ will become free for Prime customers, while non-Prime customers will pay ₹2,000 per month, or $20.85. Amazon said the upgraded assistant has a more expressive voice and can complete complex multi-step tasks. Those tasks include ordering groceries through Amazon's quick commerce service Amazon Now and turning smart home devices on and off. Users are able to switch between English and Hindi in the middle of a sentence.
Amazon said Alexa+ is integrated with several India-based services, including the food delivery service Swiggy, the ticket booking platform District from Zomato, the travel websites TripAdvisor and MakeMyTrip, and the restaurant reservation app EazyDiner. The assistant also connects with music streaming services such as Amazon Music and JioSaavn.
The launch follows testing that began earlier. In June, TechCrunch reported that Amazon had invited users to join a testing program for Alexa+, through which they could converse with the assistant in Hindi. Amazon later began testing an English version of Alexa+ as well.
Amazon first launched Alexa in India in English in 2017 and added Hindi support in 2019. India has more than 600 million Hindi speakers, and Amazon is working to reach that market with its smart devices and new features. The company did not provide absolute figures but said its smart home devices have grown 20 percent from last year.
Amazon initially announced the generative AI-powered Alexa+ in 2025 and made it available to all U.S.-based users in 2026. That US availability gives the launch a clear American reference point, since Alexa+ first reached the domestic market before expanding abroad. This year, Amazon has also launched the new assistant in markets including the U.K., Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, and Germany, with local language context.
