Xbox appears to be preparing a new achievement category that would function as its answer to PlayStation's Platinum trophies. Data inside an updated Xbox PC app points to something called Mythic Achievements, which would be granted after a player earns every Achievement in a game. Word of the feature came from references found in the software rather than from an official Microsoft announcement.
According to the app data, Mythic Achievements would be marked with their own unlock sound and could be tracked from the Xbox dashboard. Players would also have the option to show how many Mythic Achievements they have earned on their profiles. Some Xbox Insider testers have already begun noticing mentions of Mythic Achievements in early builds of the Xbox dashboard.
The feature lines up with comments from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who said last month that Xbox would receive an equivalent to the platinum trophy later this year. Microsoft has not formally introduced Mythic Achievements. The references surfacing in early Xbox software suggest an official reveal is approaching.
The Mythic Achievements references appeared in the Xbox PC app on the same day Microsoft announced it was cutting 268 Xbox staff members. That restructuring is likely to close Ninja Theory, while Halo, Sea of Thieves, and Age of Empires are being moved to Activision. The layoffs and studio changes represent a significant shake-up for Microsoft's gaming division.
For US Xbox players, the emerging feature would add a completionist tier above standard Gamerscore. The appeal of a platinum-style badge has been a draw on Sony's consoles for years, giving players a visible marker for finishing everything a game offers. Profile display and dashboard tracking would put those bragging rights in front of other Xbox users.
