Google is rolling out new health tracking tools to Pixel Watch owners this week. The Google Health app will begin receiving the Health Guardian lineup, the company's platform for blood pressure, insulin resistance and sleep breathing insights. The first trend reports using that data are expected to arrive in early October. The tools were announced last month when Google introduced its latest Pixel smartwatch but were not yet available when reviewers tested the device.
The rollout covers blood pressure trends, insulin resistance trends and sleep breathing quality metrics for owners of the Pixel Watch 3, 4 and 5. Availability of the health features comes at no cost to Pixel smartwatch owners. The expansion follows a launch period in which the health tools were announced but not yet live for users.
Wearers of the fourth and fifth generation Pixel Watch in European countries will also gain access to Google's Breathing Emergency Detection tool. That feature automatically contacts emergency services if the device detects a severe drop in blood oxygen. The emergency tool is limited to those European markets and the two most recent watch generations.
Fitbit Air owners with a Google Health Premium subscription will also receive access to the insulin resistance and blood pressure trends later this year. That access will come as part of their subscription plans. Google has not provided a specific date for when those Fitbit Air owners will see the features.
The Health Guardian toolset was a standout announcement when Google debuted its latest Pixel smartwatch last month. At the time of the device's review, the health tracking tools were not available. Reviewers rated the Pixel Watch 5 highly at its launch date, and the arrival of these tools stands to increase the device's appeal if they perform well.
For US consumers, the rollout means Pixel Watch 3, 4 and 5 owners can begin tracking the new health trends through the Google Health app without paying extra. The Breathing Emergency Detection tool is not part of the US rollout described in the announcement, which limits that feature to European countries and the two newest watch generations.
