Sony phones in an update to the midrange Xperia 10 and slaps a sizable price hike on it

Sony has introduced the Xperia 10 VIII, a new midrange Android phone for markets outside the US, where the company no longer sells its Xperia lineup. The device is a follow-up to last year’s Xperia 10 VII and shares most of its core components with that model. It is priced at £549 in the UK, which converts to roughly $750, making it about £150 or $205 more expensive than its predecessor at launch. The phone is scheduled to be available in September.

The Xperia 10 VIII keeps the same 6.1-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2340 by 1080 pixels, though Sony says this panel can reach 50 percent higher brightness than the previous version. It also retains the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 5,000mAh battery. Storage starts at 128GB. The camera system is unchanged from the Xperia 10 VII, featuring a 50MP main sensor with an f/1.9 aperture, a 13MP ultrawide lens, and an 8MP front-facing camera.

Sony has added a few refinements to justify the higher price. The new model has speakers that are 15 percent louder than those on the Xperia 10 VII. It also introduces a shortcut for digital payment tools, triggered by a double tap of the power button. The back panel uses a translucent design, and the phone comes in three color options: Frozen White, Frosted Grey, and Misty Lilac.

The substantial price increase comes as the phone’s specs remain largely identical to the outgoing model, which may give some buyers pause. The Xperia 10 VIII is not sold in the US, so American consumers would need to import it from regions where it is available. Sony continues to focus its Xperia business on other global markets, with this launch targeting those customers specifically. The company has not announced any plans to resume US sales of its phones.

For anyone considering the Xperia 10 VIII, the higher cost buys a brighter screen, louder audio, and a quick-payment feature, but the overall hardware profile mirrors what Sony offered a year earlier. The phone’s availability is limited to markets outside the US, and the September release window is confirmed.
