Apple has released the public versions of iOS 27, macOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27, ending the need to install a beta to try the company's newest software. The updates began reaching Apple devices on September 14, 2026, according to the release. The centerpiece across the ecosystem is Siri AI, the long-delayed revamp of Apple's virtual assistant.
Siri AI can draw personal information from various apps and use content on screen to give its responses more context. Apple has also introduced a dedicated Siri app, and the company notes that usage limits may apply. At launch, Siri AI works only on supported devices set to English. Apple plans to add French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish next month.
The assistant will not be available in the European Union at the outset, and features across iOS, iPadOS and watchOS that depend on it are also excluded there. Apple says it is working to find a path forward that preserves its users' privacy and security. The overhauled assistant is likewise on hold in China, where Apple says it is navigating regulatory requirements.
Outside of Siri AI, Apple is adjusting its Liquid Glass design language to make it more customizable and readable. The company says the new operating systems include performance improvements that make app launches up to 30 percent faster. Other iOS 27 changes include new AI photo editing options, support for custom EQ on AirPods, a bill-splitting feature in the US, expanded parental controls and a way to use the same phone number across two iPhones.
Users may not be able to install the new software immediately. Apple has a large number of devices in the world, and its servers must handle many people attempting to update their hardware at around the same time. Owners can check whether iOS 27 is available for their iPhone under Settings, then General, then Software Update, and follow the onscreen steps. Freeing up space first may be necessary.
IOS 27 runs on iPhone 11 series and newer devices, along with a second- or third-gen iPhone SE. Siri AI, however, works only on devices that support Apple Intelligence, including iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 models or later. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max arrive this week, and the foldable iPhone Duo will follow next month.
The Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4 and AirPods 5 go on sale starting September 18. New Mac mini and Mac Studio models, both of which will support Siri AI, arrive next week. Refreshed MacBooks and iPads will likely follow in the coming months, while Apple is expected to soon unveil a group of smart home products that support Siri AI.
