Hello Games is bringing No Man’s Sky to iOS, with versions for the iPhone and iPad set to arrive on October 28th. The studio announced the release more than a decade after the sci-fi exploration game first launched. The iOS release will join a lineup of supported platforms that already includes Mac, PC, and essentially every modern console, along with a VR version.

Sean Murray, of Hello Games, described the mobile edition as the full No Man’s Sky experience rather than a reduced version. In a blog post, he wrote that it is not No Man’s Sky Lite. The iOS version includes the game’s many updates released since launch, among them the Voyagers expansion from last year. The features left out are multiplayer and the planetary settlements.

Murray compared the iOS release to the game’s original debut on the Switch. He said Hello Games listened to players on the Switch and built from there, including with a much expanded version on Switch 2. He added that the studio will support iOS in a similar way, guided by feedback and player numbers.

The game will run on the iPhone 11 and the 3rd generation iPad Air and above. According to the studio, the download is about 5GB. The iOS version adds newly designed touch controls and supports controllers, screen casting, and mouse-and-keyboard on the iPad. Murray said the team put considerable work into battery life and thermodynamics and is proud that No Man’s Sky can be played in long, comfortable sessions.

The game will be free to try at launch. Hello Games has not said how much the full version will cost. For US players, that means the iPhone and iPad release will arrive as a trial-first download, with the paid upgrade terms still undisclosed.

No Man’s Sky has changed considerably since its debut. Hello Games has kept the game active with a steady stream of free expansions, including the Cosmos update in September, which added more things to explore across space. The iOS version now extends that long-running support to Apple’s mobile devices.
