LG has added DTS:X audio support, Google Cast and other capabilities to its Sound Suite home theater system, the company said. The updates arrive in response to feedback from customers who use the premium speaker lineup. Sound Suite is built around the H7 soundbar, which serves as the centerpiece of the system, and it relies on Dolby Atmos FlexConnect technology to let users place select speakers wherever they choose.
The most significant addition is DTS:X support for the H7 soundbar. LG said the feature gives home theater enthusiasts more ways to experience immersive, multi-dimensional audio from content and source devices that are compatible with the format. The system now also supports Google Cast, which allows users to send music and podcasts directly to LG Sound Suite systems without extra hardware.
LG is broadening the system's networking flexibility as well. Sound Suite now works with Wi-Fi 6 GHz networks and 5 GHz DFS channels, which the company said will provide more options for stereo and multi-speaker configurations. The system also gains support for dual W7 subwoofers, an option aimed at users who want stronger low-frequency output.
Separately, LG teased a product it calls a Media Connect Hub that remains in development. The company said the hub will enable DTS:X from compatible external source devices and further expand access to DTS:X content. LG did not detail how the hub will connect to the rest of the system or when it might reach customers.
The new software updates are already rolling out in some regions, according to LG. Timing and availability may vary depending on where users are located, so owners in the United States and elsewhere should check regional availability before expecting the features to arrive. The changes apply to Sound Suite systems that pair the H7 soundbar with the lineup's optional speakers and subwoofers.
For LG, the update extends a product line that sits alongside its soundbars, surround sound systems and OLED TVs. Sound Suite's appeal has rested on letting buyers choose individual speakers à la carte and position them to suit their space, a setup the company markets as a premium option. The additions of DTS:X and Google Cast address two common requests from that customer base, while the Media Connect Hub signals that LG intends to keep building out the DTS:X side of the platform.
