Footage said to be from a canceled Assassin's Creed game set in ancient China has surfaced online. The video was published by MP1st and shows gameplay and placeholder material from a title it identifies as Assassin's Creed Destiny, according to Engadget. The game was reportedly in development at Ubisoft and Tencent before being scrapped.

The footage displays the game's title and places the setting at 206 BCE during the Qin Empire. In the gameplay portions, the playable character climbs castle walls and carries out stealth kills in the style long associated with the Assassin's Creed franchise. Separate placeholder videos show combat skills and weapons, including an unusual deadly umbrella.

If the reported cancellation holds, the footage may be the only public look at the project. Ubisoft has not stopped working in the same setting, however. Assassin's Creed Jade, announced in 2022 as a mobile entry in the franchise set in ancient China, remains in development.

Ubisoft has said little about Assassin's Creed Jade since its announcement. A 2024 Reuters report said the game would be delayed until 2025. The developer still has not made any announcements about the project.

A company executive recently told VGC that Assassin's Creed Jade would include co-op gameplay. That detail is the most recent public word on the mobile title, which has gone several years without a further reveal.

For US players, the leak is likely the closest look at the ancient China setting for now. The mainline game described in the footage was reportedly canceled, while the mobile title has no announced release date. Whether any elements of the reported Assassin's Creed Destiny appear in the upcoming mobile game is unknown.
