Ikea’s Xbox collection includes a giant thumbstick stool

Ikea has partnered with Microsoft to release a new line of gaming-inspired furniture and home accessories tied to the 25th anniversary of the original Xbox console. The nine-piece collection, called Yxstaby, includes a TV stand, laptop stand, side table, lounge chair, and multi-functional toolbox, alongside decorative items such as a stool, cushion, platter, and mirrored display box. The range is designed to help gamers integrate play into their living spaces while keeping equipment tidy, according to Ikea. The pieces were developed by designers from both Ikea and Xbox to blend with typical home furnishings.

The collection uses neutral Scandinavian colors and shapes, accented by Xbox’s signature green, which highlights storage pockets and compartments meant for gaming gear. Ikea product design developer Philip Dilé said the way people play at home has changed, involving both relaxation and social connection, which alters what a room needs to provide. He noted that the goal was to create furniture people genuinely want, rather than items they tolerate simply because they game.

Among the most Xbox-specific items are a green X-shaped scatter cushion and a stool modeled directly on a thumbstick. Ikea said the stool was built using original 3D design files from the Xbox controller, with the controller’s grippy texture repurposed to keep users from sliding. Ikea designer David Wahl, who queued overnight for the first Xbox 25 years ago, said the shape is nostalgic to him and that the stool tilts with the user, mimicking a real thumbstick’s movement.

The lounge chair features a mesh pocket on its underside intended for game controllers, with enough room for larger items like magazines or books. The TV stand uses an easel-style design available in white or black, with shelves and hooks for gadgets, plus castors for mobility. A side table also has wheels and includes a green tray for extra storage, while the stool’s design highlights the collaboration’s focus on playful functionality.

The mirrored display box, offered in black or white, is suited for turning a controller collection into wall decor. A metallic trinket dish draws inspiration from the Xbox D-pad but remains subtle enough not to look overtly gaming related. The wooden toolbox is the least Xbox-coded item, though Ikea says it can also serve as a laptop stand.

The Yxstaby collection is set to launch online and in Ikea stores during the autumn, with prices and specific availability varying by market. The release reflects a broader effort by Ikea and Microsoft to address how gaming fits into everyday home life, beyond dedicated setups.
