Harness Inc. announced on Oct. 8, 2026, that it has acquired select assets from Augment Code Computing Inc., and that Augment Code's team will join the company. Harness is a software delivery company whose artificial intelligence-driven platform assists developers and operations teams, known as DevOps, with the software delivery lifecycle.
The acquisition brings Augment Code's cloud-based AI code development platform, Cosmos, to Harness. Cosmos coordinates multiple agents for software engineering teams. Harness is also acquiring Auggie command-line interface products, the Code Context Engine and related technologies. Cosmos will become Harness Cosmos Software Factory, with a stated role of automating engineering work from idea to code.
Harness co-founder and Chief Executive Jyoti Bansal said that turning an idea into code and taking that code to production are currently two separate jobs, with someone manually steering every step in between. He said Harness has spent years helping major enterprises get code safely to production, while Augment Code has spent years getting from an idea to good code.
Developers can use Cosmos to prompt and coordinate AI agents to generate and maintain code at scale using natural language prompts, doing the work of producing and refining code at the keyboard. Harness's existing agents for software delivery, security testing, runtime protection and cost management then handle work within the DevOps pipeline through production. According to the company, this creates an idea-to-deployment agent-to-agent experience.
Bansal said the only thing that will change after the acquisition is opportunity. He said customers will get a choice: they can keep using their preferred coding tools, adopt Harness Cosmos, or use both. He added that code assistance, generation and maintenance now share context, meaning testing and security sit inside the work rather than on a separate dashboard for engineers.
Augment Code co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Igor Ostrovsky said the company set out to bring AI to the entire software development lifecycle, starting with context-aware coding. He said joining Harness is the next step toward that vision, and that together the companies can make engineering work increasingly automatic, with engineers stepping in only where judgment really matters.
Harness's platform automates building, testing and deploying code across cloud, container and on-premises environments. Its AI agents help generate workflows from plain text, catch vulnerabilities, test code and troubleshoot production issues.
