Google is rolling out three new travel features in AI Mode within Search, giving US users the ability to track airfare, book hotels, and calculate rewards points directly through the tool. The update arrives as millions of Americans prepare for Labor Day weekend travel, with AAA already reporting heavier traffic and higher costs for the holiday. The features are available now in the US in English, with Google planning to expand them globally soon.
The first addition brings airfare tracking directly into AI Mode. Users can describe their desired destination and travel dates in conversation with the AI, and it will return a list of available flight options. From there, users can ask the AI to monitor prices for that specific route and time, and set up email notifications that alert them when fares change.
The second feature allows users to research and book hotels within AI Mode. The tool can compare accommodation options based on location, dates, and user preferences, and it now supports direct booking through major providers including Booking.com, Choice Hotels, Expedia, Hilton, Hotels.com, IHG, Marriott, Priceline, Trip.com, and Wyndham. This streamlines the process of moving from research to confirmed reservation without leaving the search interface.
The third feature addresses the often-confusing world of points and miles. Users can now see the cost of flights and hotels in rewards currency within AI Mode. For example, a user could type a request to fly from Seattle to Boston using American Airlines miles and see nonstop flight options for late September priced in miles. The feature currently supports rewards systems from Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, Choice Hotels International, Hilton, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, with additional programs expected to be added later.
Google’s previous travel-related AI releases have included using AI Mode to identify forgotten packing items and planning trips with Gemini and Google Maps. The new features build on that foundation by moving deeper into the booking and payment stages of travel planning. The airfare and hotel booking tools aim to reduce the number of steps between a search query and a confirmed reservation, while the points feature helps travelers understand the value of their loyalty balances before committing to a purchase.
