Akuity Inc. has added Fleet Management to its Kargo Enterprise software delivery platform, a capability that lets teams ship a single change across hundreds of Kubernetes clusters as one release. The company positions the feature as a replacement for the per-cluster pipelines those teams currently maintain. Akuity said the new capability targets a delivery problem that worsens each time a company adds infrastructure.
According to Akuity, production environments that once meant one cluster or 10 now often run to hundreds, a growth rate the company said artificial intelligence is accelerating. Each additional cluster introduces release risk and slows delivery, the company said. Kargo Enterprise, which runs on the Akuity Platform, is the commercial edition of Kargo, the open-source promotion project Akuity created.
With Fleet Management enabled, teams group their clusters into a fleet and configure the rollout order and failure threshold a single time. Kargo then promotes each change through the fleet wave by wave, with every cluster reporting its own health along the way. Platform teams monitoring the rollout can see how far a release has progressed at any point. A rollout halts only after the failure rate exceeds the threshold chosen at the start, which Akuity said prevents one failed cluster from stopping the whole fleet. Changes reach a pilot group first and canary clusters next before moving to the general population, with a health check between each wave.
A platform team that identifies a bad change mid-rollout can halt it for the entire fleet, and the subsequent rollback reaches every cluster in one step. A single view covers the whole fleet rather than a dashboard per cluster. Groups that own only part of the estate receive role-based access control limited to the clusters they operate.
Akuity said it expects finished changes to spend less time waiting on release windows and cluster-by-cluster sign-offs. In one scenario the company described, a platform team pushes a patch for a known vulnerability in an add-on such as cert-manager, and a bad update stops in the first wave before reaching the remaining clusters.
Hong Wang, Akuity co-founder and chief executive, said companies now run fleets of clusters and the release process has become the factor limiting how fast they can ship. Teams that delay making fleet management a first-class capability will feel the gap on every release, he said. Stephanie Walter, practice leader for the AI stack at HyperFRAME Research LLC, said partial failure is a genuine challenge once a release spans hundreds of clusters. Platform teams need to distinguish an isolated cluster problem from a bad change that should stop the rollout, she said, adding that with AI accelerating development, more code should not mean more release plumbing.
Akuity is a venture capital-backed startup founded in 2021 by the creators of Argo CD, and Lead Edge Capital led its $20 million Series A round in 2022. The Fleet Management news follows last month's launch of Agentic Control Plane, which gave AI agents a governed path into production. Fleet Management is in private beta, and the company did not give a date for general availability.
