A developer has released a homebrew application that brings Xbox Cloud Gaming to jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles. The mod, called PSBox Cloud Gaming, was created by RafaelNGP and distributed as a .zip file on GitHub. It allows users to stream Xbox games on Sony's console without switching to an Xbox or PC. The release follows earlier mods that let the PS5 emulate the original Xbox.
Installation is described as straightforward. Users download the .zip file, extract it into a specific folder, and wait for a Homebrew loader to mount the application as a game. They then launch it and sign in as usual, with the option to authenticate through a phone using a code shown on the TV. The app currently supports streaming at 1080p60 and can be upscaled to 4K using the PS5's GPU with AMD FSR 1 or Anime4K upscalers.
The software is not without problems. Testers have reported video issues including macroblocking and pink artifacts, as well as vibration problems with DualSense controllers. Other users reported being thrilled with the experience and said it worked well. The mixed reports suggest the mod is functional but still in development.
After a Reddit commenter asked whether the app could support local Xbox Remote Play, which would stream games from an Xbox console the user already owns to the PS5, RafaelNGP said it did not work yet. Days later, the developer released an update that enabled Xbox Remote Play. The addition expands the mod beyond cloud streaming to local game streaming between the two console platforms.
The mod reflects a broader trend of jailbreak developers extending the PS5 beyond what Sony intended. Recent efforts have included emulating the original Xbox on the console, a capability never designed into the hardware. The PS5's exclusive game library has been characterized as lackluster, but the jailbreaking community has continued to add functionality outside official channels.
For US consumers, the mod matters mainly to those who own a jailbroken PS5 and either an Xbox or an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, since signing in as usual is required to access the cloud service. The application is available only through GitHub and depends on a Homebrew loader, a workflow outside official console software distribution. Neither Sony nor Microsoft has commented on the mod, and no official support exists for running Xbox Cloud Gaming on PlayStation hardware.
