Anthropic on Wednesday announced Claude Duet, an AI agent built to compete with Meta’s Muse and OpenAI’s Dots. The company is aiming the product at professionals and small business owners, who will be able to use it as a standalone app on iOS and Android or through Claude on the web. Anthropic described the launch as a research preview.

Claude Duet runs on Claude Opus 5.5. According to Anthropic, the agent delivers a short morning brief covering the most important items across a user’s connected apps, then monitors those apps during the day and messages the user only when something requires attention. It also accepts assigned work ranging from routine administrative chores such as scheduling meetings to more involved projects, including dashboards that draw on dozens of tools, financial or sales forecasts, prototyping, and web app development.

The agent draws on memory, skills, and connected apps from Claude, and it comes with a virtual machine and a browser it can use to carry out work. Before taking a significant action, such as sending a payment or deleting something, Claude Duet checks in with the user for approval, according to Anthropic.

Because the agent may act on sensitive information, Anthropic said it has added a dedicated classifier and safety system prompt intended to reject requests to share the strictest tier of information, including credit card numbers. The company characterized the release as an early version that may still misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent. Anthropic also said Claude Duet is not as strong at personal errands such as booking tickets.

The launch places Anthropic in direct competition with Meta and OpenAI, which already offer agent products for consumers and workers. For US users, Claude Duet arrives through the same Claude service and mobile app stores they already use, with availability beginning in the research preview phase.
