Anamanaguchi, the chiptune band made up of Peter Berkman, James DeVito, Luke Silas, and Ary Warnaar, is dealing with an unusually large number of open browser tabs. In a questionnaire, the group put the count at 46 and 31 across two windows, with Silas offering the blunt assessment that it is too many. He noted that most of the tabs are meant to be shared with others or read and watched, and that a cleanout happens every weekend. A few, he admitted, have been sitting open for months.
The band, formed in 2004 on forums, is known for chiptune music and remains closely tied to video games and online culture. Listeners may know Anamanaguchi from the 2010 soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, or from a collaboration with Hatsune Miku that appeared in Fortnite. Their 2025 album Anyway marked a move toward indie rock, written at the American Football house and built around fuzzy guitars. A new single, "Yeah I Guess," continues in that direction.
Asked about their most-used tools, the members named a mix of music software and everyday hardware. Silas pointed to Ableton Live Operator, saying it is simple and powerful and that its sounds often end up in finished recordings. Warnaar argued that built-in laptop and cellphone microphones are underappreciated, and said he sometimes keeps what he intended as scratch vocals because they sound good enough.
Berkman singled out the Logitech MX Master 3S, describing its sideways scroll, its notched-and-smooth scroll wheel toggle, its quiet click, and its USB-C charging. He said he feels a loss of gestural fidelity when he has to use a trackpad on another computer. DeVito named Amphetamine, an app that prevents a computer from sleeping for a set period, which he uses during exports and renders so he can put his laptop in a bag and leave. He cautioned about overheating in a bag.
Several answers touched on long-standing frustrations. Warnaar said he would like a standard 1/8-inch headphone jack back and has been replacing dongles since Apple dropped the port, calling the cycle frustrating and wasteful. Silas said the only addition he wants for his iPhone SE is a USB port so he could type on a keyboard. DeVito repeated advice from a friend to raise key-repeat beyond the level normally allowed through the interface, saying that typing and deleting become much faster once coordination adjusts.
Berkman praised vvorldwide.com, a radio aggregator that pools feeds from NTS, The Lot, dublab, and KEXP, comparing it to a car radio dial. He also said Firefox tab grouping has become an art form for him, describing tabs as folders of memory he can recall like a PlayStation save file.
