Amazon introduced a new family of Alexa tablets on Thursday that run on Android and come with full access to the Google Play Store at launch. The lineup covers three models: the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, the Amazon Alexa Tablet 11, and the Amazon Alexa Tablet 8. Each device uses an aluminum unibody design and a high-resolution display, and users can download millions of apps, including YouTube, Netflix, and Gmail, from the Google Play Store.

The shift is a departure for Amazon, whose tablets have run Fire OS and shipped with the company's own app store until now. An Amazon spokesperson told TechCrunch the devices are an all-new product line with new hardware and a new operating system, not a rebrand of Fire Tablets. Amazon is positioning the move as a way to reach a wider audience.

The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is 6.5 mm thick and carries a 12-inch display at 280 PPI with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 3:2 aspect ratio. Amazon says it offers nearly three times the processing performance and nine times the graphics performance of any tablet it has shipped before, enough for multi-window multitasking, graphics-intensive gaming, and 4K streaming. It includes Dolby Atmos speakers, Wi-Fi 6E, and 16 hours of video playback, and comes in a standard display or a Nanomatte anti-glare display. It starts at $499.99, or $549.99 for the Nanomatte model, and ships in Graphite. Amazon also announced the Alexa Tablet Pro Pen and Pro Keyboard, which it says turn the 12 Pro into a full workstation.

The Alexa Tablet 11 has an 11-inch 2.5K display at 276 pixels per inch, 90Hz scrolling, and a 16:10 aspect ratio, along with 15 hours of video playback and dual Dolby Atmos speakers. It starts at $329.99 in Graphite, Amethyst, and Matcha. The Alexa Tablet 8 is the smallest and most portable, with an 8.7-inch display and an all-aluminum body weighing 329 grams, built to be held in one hand. It starts at $229.99 in Graphite, Rosette, and Teal.

All three tablets launch with built-in access to Alexa+, which answers questions and controls smart home devices when users say Alexa or tap the Ask Alexa button. On-Screen Intelligence lets users ask Alexa to look at what is on screen for contextual help, such as which hike on a displayed trail list is best for them. The tablets also ship with a new Kindle reading experience that silences notifications, reduces blue light, and can reach up to 20 hours of battery life.

Amazon separately announced new Amazon Kids Tablets in 8.7-inch and 11-inch sizes on Wednesday, sold in bundles with a kid-proof case and a year of Amazon Kids+, which offers thousands of kid-friendly books, games, videos, and apps without ads. Versions exist for pre-K kids ages 3 and up, who get a soft bumper case with designs from franchises including Paw Patrol and Barbie, and for kids 6 and older, who get a slim hard case with a built-in kickstand.

The three Alexa tablets and the Amazon Kids Tablets go on sale October 14, 2026, in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. They reach the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, and Spain on October 19, while the Amazon Kids Tablets also arrive in Japan starting October 14.
