Amber Harpe, a Savannah Police Department officer, has been fired for sharing her Flock login credentials with her husband, an ICE agent, according to reporting by The Verge. Interim Major Max Nowinsky had initially recommended a light eight-hour suspension for Harpe. Major Michelle Halford and Assistant Police Chief Robert Gavin disagreed with that recommendation and removed her from the force.
Harpe was fired alongside five other SPD employees after an internal investigation uncovered misuse of Flock. Four of those employees were later arrested, though Harpe was not among them.
The case highlights scrutiny of Flock, a license plate reader system used by law enforcement agencies, and the internal access controls governing who can query its data. Harpe's termination followed a review that examined how her credentials were used.
Nowinsky's proposed penalty of an eight-hour suspension was overridden by Halford and Gavin, who opted for dismissal instead. The internal investigation that led to the firings examined Flock misuse across multiple employees.
Of the six employees fired, four were subsequently arrested. Harpe was not arrested. The investigation did not result in charges against her.
SPD has not commented further on the case beyond the disciplinary actions. Flock did not comment on the Savannah investigation.
